I received an e-mail from a single mom in Texas this weekend that I’ve been meaning to share. She recently moved from Florida to Texas and unable to afford the Cobra from her last employer, has been relying on luck until her new employer added her to their policy. Unfortunately for her, luck did not pan out. Her son was recently rushed to the hospital for his appendix. Fortunately, her son was treated at the hospital they went to, but she is now suffering the financial consequences of being uninsured in America.

Wristbands are spreading quickly. The first order is almost exhausted, but a new shipment is on the way!
I’m getting a story with almost every wristband request. Some days it’s hard to take. I knew these stories existed, but getting daily first-hand accounts of healthcare tragedies written by ordinary citizens has been more emotionally challenging than I had expected.
These healthcare stories are coming from everyone, not just uninsured Americans. I’ve sent wristbands to people who are currently insured, but have had experienced the fear of being unisured at one point in their lives. Changing jobs or moving to another state are just two common examples where Americans can easily be left without health insurance. Ever seen the cost of a COBRA? Absolutely UNREAL!!!
